CentrePort Canada Series: From scorching hot deserts to the bone-chilling Arctic, these fire trucks are engineered to the extreme.
Fort Garry Fire Trucks produces some of the world’s leading firefighting equipment, and they’re located right in the heart of the prairies.
Operating out of Winnipeg’s CentrePort Canada, the company custom builds fire trucks according to their customers’ needs — and have been doing it since 1919, now with over 120 employees. Their passionate teams work on special design requirements for each order. Since no two designs are exactly alike, customers need to visit their headquarters in person from places like the United Arab Emirates to check on the progress of their orders.
The proximity of their CentrePort location to the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport has been a major benefit to Fort Garry Fire Trucks. “Most of our customers will fly in three to four times for pre-construction meetings,” says National Sales Manager Brian Nash.
When orders are complete, the company sends many of the fire trucks out via shipping lanes, and once again, the proximity to major highways makes a positive impact on their logistics. According to Nash, the company’s customer-first approach is what really drives the team. “What makes me the proudest is when I see a finished product in the inspection bay, and I see the customer go home with a reliable, tough product that is going to serve them for many years to come.”
