The Startup Canada Awards recognize “individuals, organizations, and networks that demonstrate outstanding impact and achievement in advancing Canadian entrepreneurship.” Each year, regional winners are announced from six designated areas across Canada, after which a Grande Finale is held to award the national winners.
This year, the Startup Canada Awards for the Prairies were held on September 21 at the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre in Winnipeg, presented by North Forge Technology Exchange. With 17 awards from four main categories, the nominees represent some of the most exciting entrepreneurial talent from the region.
The awards were hosted by Obby Khan, former CFL athlete and CEO/Founder of Shawarma Khan and Green Carrot Juice Company. Speakers included Joshua Simair, CEO and Co-founder of SkipTheDishes, and Jeff Ryzner, President of North Forge Technology. Many were in attendance, including Winnipeg City Councillor Marty Morantz.
The following are just some of the deserving winners from the big night. Good luck to all in the Grande Finale, which will be held in Ottawa on October 19.
