Though the wildly swinging temperatures may be making some of us feel otherwise, summer is almost here—and for many businesses here in Winnipeg, that means gearing up for a busy season of learning, networking and expanding our minds at some great events.
In this edition of our “Manitoba Business Event Roundup” we’ll be taking a look at some of the up-and-coming events in and around Winnipeg. Get a brief description of each event so you can quickly find the ones best suited to you and your business. The Work Matters Conference is presented by QNET, which is a non-profit made up of individuals and organizations dedicated to raising awareness about education and changing business environments.
This all-day conference features keynote presentations from business leaders such as Michael Bungay Stanier, author of Do More Great Work, as well as a variety of breakout sessions such as “Work Matters – From a Leader’s Lens”, “Job Crafting. Shaping Your Job for a Better Fit” and “Exploring Elements of a Supportive Work Environment.”

Centrallia is a 2 ½ day annual conference organized by the World Trade Centre Winnipeg. Now in its fourth year, this professional networking conference is designed to help Winnipeg businesses connect with other World Trade Centre and Chamber of Commerce businesses from across the globe, providing them with opportunities for international commerce, trade and investments.

Toasting Winnipeg is a new breakfast series presented by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, which is dedicated to shining a light on original, innovative and inspiring stories from within the local business community. This informal gathering will feature success stories from businesses around the city with the intention of demonstrating that success is always possible.
The presenter for this breakfast series is Louise (Desmarais) Champagne, Owner of Neechi Commons.
When: June 1 from 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Where: Pine Ridge Golf Club
Price: $475 (non-member rate) or $275 (member rate)
June 1st is the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce’s 26th Annual Chamber Golf Classic. This perennial event sells out every year and features an opportunity to enjoy our beautiful Manitoban summer weather, swing some clubs around and enjoy the day with over 150 golf enthusiasts from our local business community.
All the money raised from the Golf Classic will be donated to a charity (yet to be announced) so make sure to sign up, have fun and do some good!
Manitoba Chambers of Commerce: MBiz Breakfast Series featuring Honourable Cameron Friesen, Minister of Finance
When: June 1 from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m.
Where: Hotel Fort Garry
Price: Member and Future Member rates start at $47.50 and 57.50 + GST respectively. Table rates also available.
The last MBiz Breakfast for the 2015-2016 season features the Honourable Cameron Friesen, Mister of Finance as he reviews the new provincial budget to the business community the day after it is released.

TEDxWinnipeg is a one-day event in the spirit of the TED Talks conferences which is dedicated to spreading great ideas and sharing inspiring stories. So far two of this year’s confirmed speakers are Isral Idonjie, who will be speaking on the topic of “Building Successful People”, and Dr. Nicole Buckley of the Canadian Space Agency, who will be doing a presentation on her research and findings on Health and Aging in Space.

But TEDxWinnipeg isn’t just about hearing great stories and having a “feel good” day. It’s also about connecting with other creatives and is a great opportunity to get to know other like-minded people from the local business, nonprofits and arts sectors.
When: June 2 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Where: The Fairmont Winnipeg
Price: $125 + GST
One of the newest MCC Premier Events, which was created to allow members and sponsors to have direct access to Manitoba’s deputy ministers on a personalized basis. Enjoy dinner seated beside a minister, and engage in conversation about issues directly affecting you and your business.
Deputy Ministers rotate after each course to provide guests more opportunity to discuss issues with multiple ministers throughout the evening, further enhancing this great opportunity. Following dinner, there is a Q & A period opened to all DM’s in order for participants to hear their perspectives on the province’s pressing issues.

If you’re a member of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, then don’t miss your chance to connect with other local businesses and celebrate some local success stories at their June Luncheon.
