Stay focused & keep on track at the office.
When the pressure’s on and a deadline is looming, the last thing you need is a distraction at work. But distractions are everywhere, especially when it seems like you’re fingers force you to type in Facebook or Google on your browser.
We’ve all been there — our productivity wanes and you the most important thing on the list has somehow become your mental last priority. Here are three extensions you can quickly add to Chrome — for free — to keep on track and fight the distraction demons.
I love this extension for its simplicity, as Momentum turns any new tab on your browser into a beautiful one-item task list.
The next time you open a tab, Momentum springs into action by displaying an inspiring photo from around the world and greeting you by name. It also displays the single most important thing on your to-do list — front and centre — as a reminder that you have something more critical to cross off your list than checking your Messenger conversations.
Used by creator of WordPress, Matt Mullenweg, and touted as one of his most focus-enhancing tools, this one is worth adding to your bag of tricks.
If you’re like me, you’re reading this blog on one of 30 tabs open on your browser. That is incredibly messy for the mind and makes a quick distraction oh-so-enticing.
Keep those tabs in check by condensing them down into one easy list with OneTab. Just click the extension and all of your tabs will turn into a clickable “OneTab,” allowing you to reopen individual pages at a later time, save them all in a grouped list, lock them so you can easily access them in the future or simply wipe them away to start fresh.
With over a million users and a perfect five-star rating, this extension tops the pack of the many tab-assist extensions in the Chrome Web Store.
Bonus: To save pages to a reading list and categorize all the amazing things you’ve found online, get the Pocket extension. Learn the details here, along with the best offline apps to stay productive.
3. Focus 45
If you still can’t force yourself to stay on track, Focus 45 will take your distraction-free capabilities to the next level. This extension is the equivalent of Internet detention, as it blocks your most time-consuming sites for 45 minutes and leaves you with no option but to get down to work. Try to navigate to any flagged sites and you won’t get too far.
But if you really need access during those 45 minutes, you can type in a code to get on for only 5 minutes — just enough time to get the information you need and head back to productivity land.
If customization is your game, easily add or remove blocked sites with one click and change the lengths of time to block sites or unlock Focus 45.
